Real Talk: Menstruation Management

How to have a happier, healthier cycle.
Let’s be honest, most of us weren’t exactly given a great education about periods growing up. We learned how to hide a tampon up our sleeve, maybe tracked dates in secret, and figured a lot of it out as we went along.
Whilst I have had my ups and downs, over the years I have grown to love my period because as I have learnt, it’s a vital sign of your overall health — and when you understand how to support your body during your cycle, everything changes.
So let’s talk about periods, menstruation management, and how to make that time of the month feel a little less scary.

First things first, what is a “healthy” period?
A healthy period looks different for everyone, and understanding the uniqueness of your body and your cycle is important, but generally:
Your cycle lasts around 21–35 days
Bleeding lasts about 3–7 days
Flow is manageable (not constantly leaking through protection)
Pain is present but not debilitating
You feel able to continue your daily life
Severe pain, extremely heavy bleeding, or major mood changes can be our body’s way of communicating with us, so it is important to pay attention to your cycle and what it tells us.
Menstruation management: finding what works for you
What’s your menstruation management like?
If you’re anything like us, you probably rotate between menstrual cups, pads, and tampons depending on the day, your plans, and honestly, your mood. No one needs to be trying to change a tampon whilst on the beach or worrying about leaks during the school run!
And that’s completely normal. In my 25 years of having a period, I have not found a singular strategy and instead take a pick and mix approach to period management. Because guess what, ladies, there are options!
Pads
Great for overnight use, lighter days, or when you want something simple and fuss-free. Breathability and softness matter more than you think, especially for sensitive skin.
Tampons
Convenient for movement and swimming, but choosing gentle, body-friendly materials is key since they sit internally.
Menstrual cups
A reusable option that many women fall in love with once they get the hang of it. Comfortable, long-lasting protection and less waste, which is a win for both your body and the planet.
Why product ingredients actually matter
Your vulva and vaginal area are incredibly absorbent and sensitive. Products filled with fragrances, chlorine bleaching, or harsh materials can sometimes contribute to irritation or discomfort, especially during your period when everything is more sensitive.
That’s why we were so excited to add a fantastic brand to our wellness range that truly puts intimate health first.
Meet Yoni, now at Wiggle
Their approach is simple: period care that works with your body, not against it.
Yoni products are made with thoughtfully sourced materials designed for comfort, softness, and everyday wellbeing.

And yes, we tested them ourselves.
👉 Yoni pads are genuinely some of the softest we’ve ever slipped into our underwear (your sensitive skin will notice the difference immediately).
👉 Their menstrual cups? Surprisingly easy to insert and incredibly comfortable once in place — one of those “why didn’t I try this sooner?” moments.
Sometimes small upgrades make a big difference in how your entire cycle feels.
Tips for having a healthier, happier period
Supporting your period isn’t complicated, but as with everything, consistency matters.
Here are a few simple ways to care for your body during your cycle:
💧 Stay hydrated to help with bloating and energy
🥗 Nourish yourself with iron-rich and balanced meals
🛌 Prioritise rest - remember your body is working hard
🔥 Use heat and gentle movement to ease cramps
🌸 Choose body-safe menstrual products
🧠 Track your cycle to understand patterns
The goal isn’t to “power through” your period; it’s to support yourself through it.
Let’s normalise talking about periods
At Wiggle, we believe sexual wellness includes every part of women’s health, including menstruation. But not enough people are talking about them.
Periods shouldn’t feel embarrassing, confusing, or uncomfortable to talk about. The more conversations we have, the more empowered we become to choose products, routines, and care that actually support our bodies.
Because understanding your cycle is like unlocking a new superpower!
